Cocaine Rituals in Club Culture: Intensifying and Controlling Alcohol Intoxication

Clubbing is an important part of the nighttime economy, and cocaine use is, for some young people, essential this clubbing culture. However, interaction rituals around powder in context remain understudied. This study based on qualitative interviews with adult recreational users ( n = 28) explores how they club settings, relation to drinking The analysis identified three main explanations using cocaine: (a) unity friends because shared transgression, (b) high as a “collective effervescence,” (c) possibility control, extend, intensify intoxication. These illustrate were deeply integrated drinking-to-intoxication rituals, illegality reinforced feelings friends. In its related are used control alcohol-fuelled partying.
